Takeaways from Friday nights game

  • Robinson Canó hit another laser beam double, this one came in the first inning, setting the table for the Mets first run. He also drove in a run in the second inning on a hard hit single. He later doubled again off of Wainwright, putting him and Alonso in scoring position, the hit would take Wainwright out of the game. He finished the night going 3-5.
  • Wilson Ramos actually hit a ball that wasn’t absolutely smoked and still managed to get the RBI single. He later added on another RBI, his 14th of the year on a groundout. He went 1-4.
  • J.D. Davis hustled hard for his third double of the year, driving in Michael Conforto after he drew a walk in the first. He added a single to his night, in the 7th going 2-4.
  • Michael Conforto drew 3 walks and scored a run. He finished the game going 0-2.
  • Juan Lagares went 2-4 with two singles and a run scored.
  • Pete Alonso took a fastball at his shins and absolutely blasted it to dead central with an exit velocity of 111.6 MPH for 432 feet. He would end up going 2-4 on the night.
  • Jason Vargas only pitched 4 innings, however he pitched well. He gave up 3 hits, one of which was a home run. He walked and struck out 3, after throwing 75 pitches.
  • Juerys Familia came into the game in the 7th and pitched 1.1 innings before he was removed after a Yadier Molina double. However, he looked a lot better than he has as of late.
  • Robert Gsellman came in and only pitched 0.2 innings but held the lead with the runners on the corners.
  • Edwin Diaz came in and got into some trouble however secured the first game of the series with the Cardinals as well as his 7th save of the year.
