January 10, 2019: Dozier signs a deal with the Washington Nationals.
Dozier had a relatively slow start this off-season, I honestly was expecting his market to pick up as soon as the World Series ended. However, when it came to second basemen, Cano stole the show with his unexpected return to New York, this time with the Mets.
It’s unclear why the Mets are interested in Dozier unless they plan to use him at 3rd, while either moving Frazier to 1st or removing him from the roster completely. With Peter Alonso waiting for his opportunity, a move to acquire Dozier might not make much sense.
Although Dozier has been a top tier second baseman for the majority of his career while with the Minnesota Twins, he’s currently looking to recapture the magic and I can’t blame him. Although BVW is showing interest in the veteran right hander, his best fit may be in Colorado, the perfect place for a temporary resurrection.
In 1019 career at bats vs LHP, Dozier owns a slash line of .269/ .352/ .498/ .850 while only hitting a shocking 48 home runs, 73 doubles, driving in 128 R.B.I.’s.
