What can the Mets expect from Gorzelanny

By Gem Tablak

Gorzelanny signed a minor league pact with the Mets this off season. Gorzelanny has an opt out clause in his contract that allows him to walk on March 24th, enough time to see if he has a place on this team.

If he earns a roster spot, Gorzelanny will make $1M along with $1.8M in incentives.

Gorzelanny hasn’t really been an effective pitcher since 2014. From 2012 to 2014, he pitched 178 1/3 innings between the Washington Nationals & Milwaukee Brewers with a 3.13 ERA, 8.5 K/9, & a 43.5% ground ball rate.

In his 12 year career, Gorzelanny has a solid line vs left handed batters. Lefties hit .229/.302/.356 against the crafty Gorzelanny.

He will provide competition in Spring Training for other lefties like Josh Smoker, Josh Edgin, & Sean Gilmartin. Even new minor league signee Adam Wilk, who also received an invitation to Spring Training.
